49% of Accidental House Fires are Caused by Electricity

A survey by the Electrical Safety Council has raised some frightening statistics about electrical safety in the home. This independent body has stated that ‘millions of people in the UK are risking death or injury because of their ignorance about household electricity’.

On the basis of the survey’s findings, the Electrical Safety Council estimates that more than 12 million people a year in the UK could be knowingly using faulty plugs or sockets, and 1.5 million may ignore burning smells coming from an appliance or socket.

The survey also suggested people used faulty plugs or sockets and tried to mend devices which were still plugged in.

Each week on average, at least one person dies from household electrical accidents, and annually 350,000 people are injured, the Electrical Safety Council has said.

Wensum Valley Services Makes Scarning Sparkle

Christmas brings an new dimension to the work usually provided by Wensum Valley Services. We’ve recently spent time in Scarning installing Christmas lights around the village hall and in the grounds of the church to help bring a little bit of extra sparkle to the village over the Festive period. It was imperative to ensure that all external socket outlets were completely weatherproof and that all wiring was sympathetic with the surroundings so that all that was noticeable were the lights. We would encourage anyone close to Scarning over the Christmas period to view these lights – perfect for encouraging a little Christmas spirit!

The collapse of Norwich City Council’s contractor Connaught was a shock to everyone and left many people in social housing with grave concerns regarding the repairs and maintenance to their properties. When Lovell took on the temporary building maintenance contract they needed a reliable electrical contracting firm at short notice.
